Truck Direct's 2002 "Lightning Bolt" project vehicle. On display at
the 2002 SEMA show in Las Vegas, and in a feature editorial of Truckin'
magazine, as well as its being a regular element of our Truckin' magazine
advertisements . . . this truck has received a great deal of international exposure. Even customers in Europe, as well as our boys in Iraq have caught its action. And as much as we'll hate to see it go, at some point you have to share the fun with those that have driven the excitement of the project in the first place . . . our customers. Certified as the "World's Fastest Production Pickup Truck" in the Guinness Book of World Records, after reaching 147 miles per hour at Ford's test track, and with the Lightning having been produced in limited numbers for only 5 years, this truck will surely go down in the annals of automotive history as something that comes along once in a great while. As the future looks to smaller, less powerful trucks, that have only have fuel economy to brag about, its abundantly clear that many guys will look back, wringing their hands, wishing they had experienced the excitement that the Lightning offered while they had their chance. From 380 horsepower stock, this truck picked up another 100 ponies with our relatively conservative underhood add-ons. We made the decision early on, that if we got carried away at the drag strip, we'd certainly wreck it and/or blow it up, which would prevent us from being able to display it for our customers so they could see the kinds of improvements that were possible to an already awesome truck. After all, no one could see it if it was always at the body shop, or being torn apart for internal engine work, no matter how enticing that avenue might be. We were determined to make it a showcase of the highest quality aftermarket parts available for such a model, and, yes, of course, to sell those parts to you and your fellow Lightning fans. But that doesn't mean that you can't take up where we left off . . . and turn what is already a very fast truck into one that is fully capable of delivering low 11 second 1/4 mile numbers with some internal engine modifications.
